Shirley was born in Whitefish Lake, Alberta and grew up in Goodfish Lake, Alberta. She attended BlueQuills Residential School for grade 7 & 8 and had a very positive experience. She has worked in the St. Paul Regional School district for 32 1/2 years, in different capacities such as Secretary, Librarian assistant and eventually teaching the Cree Language after taking the Cree Language Instructors Training Program in Maskwacîs College. Shirley obtained her B.A in Cree in 2014.
Shirley retired in 2013 and is now helping with the Cree Program in BlueQuills.
In her spare time, she crochets and knits and spends time with nôsisimak.
